A fantastic organisation in Somerset have an opportunity for a Highways Supervision Engineer to join them on a 6 Month Contract. The role will require you to: Inspect and monitor the construction of highway infrastructure works through site visits and attendance at site meetings as required. Instruct and advise developers, their contractor and/or agents upon all matters of specification and quality of workmanship to ensure works are constructed to appropriate standards. Identify and document defects, then decide upon remedial works necessary to remedy these defects. Ensure the adoption of constructed infrastructure works by undertaking surveys to determine any remedial works required, and composing the relevant documentation e.g. contract documentation, designs, specifications, bill of quantities etc. Enforce the conditions of all licences and permits granted by the Highway Authority to developers and their contractors, permitting works on the existing public highway network. Ensure that developers and/or their contractors work in compliance with current legislation including health and safety, street works and codes of practice where relevant. Ensure developers abide by conditions, stipulations and obligations of all agreements with the County Council to enable adoption of the completed infrastructure Carry out technical audits Ensure that submitted engineering details for proposed highway infrastructure and improvements, to be implemented either by the private sector or the Highway Authority, comply with the appropriate national, regional or local design manuals and specifications by undertaking a technical audit of key aspects of the proposals. Research via the Area Highway Service Manager and via on site investigations/appraisal any local highway related issues and existing apparatus within the boundaries of the highway that may have been a bearing on, or be affected by the design, construction and operation of the proposed infrastructure/improvement scheme. Liaise with Street Works teams to effectively co-ordinate development infrastructure schemes on the existing highway network. Assess and approve proposed works programmes giving consideration to traffic sensitive designations and the effects upon works progress, all road users, road frontages, businesses etc. Assess and approve proposals for temporary traffic management to ensure that the highest standards of road safety are maintained throughout the durations of the works. Arrange for the routine inspection of specialist areas of the works by the Service Provider, coordinating the results.
