Metallic Materials and Processes Engineer Location : Sheffield Initial Contract Length: 6 Months Hourly Rate: Up to £48.40 Ltd Our client is the world's largest aerospace company and leading manufacturer of commercial air-planes, defence, space and security systems. They are looking to expand their Research & Technology unit in Sheffield, with an additional Metallic Materials and Process engineer on an initial 6 month contract. Job Description The successful candidate will be part of the Europe Materials and Manufacturing Technologies (MMT) team based in Sheffield, UK, and will report to the Metals technical manager. The team partners with US counterparts within the organization and business units to execute R&D programs in machining, forming and forging, welding and additive manufacturing. By developing innovative production systems that satisfy our stakeholder' needs will significantly improve cycle time, cost, quality and performance. A Metallic Materials & Processes engineer is required to lead the execution of the R&D project developing CNC machining technologies, equipment, processes and methodologies to support the stand up and rate ramp up of one of the first Commercial Air-planes fabrication factories in Europe. This emergent production site manufactures actuator components for specific Aero programs. After the build to print phase is completed, there will be future R&D programmes focusing on improving productivity and cost efficiency. The candidate will engage with the internal team, external suppliers and Universities to develop follow on projects and manage them from technical perspective. The candidate will foster and assess new opportunities for UK government funding and will lead the preparation of technical bids, including drafting the proposals and determining interest, technical value and adherence to the technical roadmaps and priorities. Qualifications and experience *Degree in Aeronautical, Materials, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering. *Proficiency in conventional/novel machining technologies for metallic materials ( including NC Knowledge) *Strong background and hands on experience (10+ years) in production support. *Sound experience in working in the European R&D ecosystem, preferably in the UK. *Demonstrated experience as project manager or principal investigator. *Fluency in English and good communication, presentation and technical writing skills is a must. *Aerospace experience is a plus. *Design experience would be a plus.
