Sister/Charge Nurse - Larne

Salary: £37,752 per annum- Full time

Our client has over 25 years' experience in the private Nursing Home sector. Each Home has a reputation for delivering high quality nursing care. There are a number Nursing Homes in the Group located in Northern Ireland.

The Role

The post of Sister/Charge Nurse is that of second in charge and the person will assume the duties of the Manager / Assistant Nurse Manager in her absence

Role Responsibilities:

Responsible to: Nurse Manager

- Care - Act as a 'Named Nurse' for a group of residents. - Assess, prescribe and evaluate care appropriately. Using the nursing care plans to show care required and keep this under regular review (minimum quarterly)
- Complete accident reports as they occur and report as necessary to the Regulations & Quality Improvement Authority
- Liaise with medical staff, health centre receptionists, chiropodists, hairdressers, physiotherapist and clergy effectively
- Ensure that the relatives of the residents are dealt with in a courteous manner
- Respond to requests by relatives and residents to ensure that the Home respects individuals wishes and care is given appropriately
- Adhere to the NMC Professional Code of Conduct

- General - Be able to re-adjust duty rotas as a result of absences, to maintain staffing levels appropriately
- Be 'on call' for specific times dictated by the Nurse Manager
- Liaise with the Nurse Manager with regard to the disciplinary/grievance matters concerning staff
- Ensure that the patients and residents registers are kept up to date
- Keep good records of when regular test or appointments are due for patients
- Assist the Nurse Manager with duties with regard to inspections, maintenance problems, orientation/induction of new staff.
- Assist with Fire Prevention and Health & Safety


- Teaching - If not already qualified, you may be required to undertake the NVQ Assessors course and follow on to be verifier for NMQ in the Home.
- Carry out weekly short teaching sessions to maintain good practice for Care Assistants
- Attend all internal lectures and staff meetings
- Maintain standards necessary for professional re-registration


Skills & Experience:

- Management Experience - Working as Nurse In Charge
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Effective Communication and Listening Skills at all levels but particularly in relation to our clients
