We have an exciting opportunity for teaching assistants, graduates and support workers starting in September 2020 in a Special Need School in Lambeth for children aged 11-19 years old. The role is full-time Monday to Friday as a Learning Mentor supporting children 1:1 or in small groups with autism.

There are 8 Learning Mentor positions available to start in September 2020 supporting children in secondary and post-16 education with autism. The school have a with a keen interest in those with backgrounds as teaching assistants, graduates or support workers but also those with personal experience supporting autism.

Children are referred from The Borough of Lambeth and across London with a diagnosis of autism and some may have sensory needs, speech difficulties and challenging behaviours. Learning and therapies within the school are delivered through short interactive activities and successful learning mentors will need to be pro-active, understanding to pupils needs and able to work collaboratively.

Requirements:

* Have a background either as a learning mentor, teaching assistant or support worker
* Or have a UK recognised degree - Psychology, Sociology are preferred but all graduates welcome to apply
* Or have personal experience supporting autism such as a carer, parent or sibling
* Must be available to start full-time in September 2020
* Must be confident supporting children with autism aged 11-19 years
* Must have a positive attitude, pro-activity and be able to learn new skills quickly
* Must be based in Lambeth, Southwark or in local areas
* Must be able to work Monday to Friday between 8:30 -4:00 (Training/staff meeting days will have additional hours)

The school is based local to both Lambeth, Vauxhall and Southwark Station with accessible tube/train links and buses across South London.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
