Training Standards Investigator
Job Description
Our East Midlands local authority client is looking for an experienced Trading Standards Investigator to carry out key work protecting local communities from fraudulent trading practices, doorstep crime, car clocking, and scams.
Roles & Responsibilities
Work in an investigatory enforcement role to prevent crime and scams.
Follow comprehensive legal procedures and legislation in all aspects of the role.
Handle cases of fraud, conspiracy, aiding and abetting under the Crime Act
Support the wider National Trading Standards Regional Investigations team.
Assist with major investigations and scams.
Handle workload for the dedicated commercial team investigating business crime.
Skills & Experience
Experienced investigating scams and fraud essential to a background in the police or other enforcement agencies
Willingness and commitment to develop a knowledge of Trading Standards legislation.
Flexible and enthusiastic
Great team player
Willing to work hard to help shape and drive the service forward.
Relevant work experience essential
Essential Requirements
Comprehensive knowledge of procedural legislation governing criminal investigation including: CPIA 1996, CJA 2003, RIPA 2000, PACE 1984, Human Rights Act 1998, rules of evidence etc
Knowledge of legislation relating to fraud, conspiracy, aiding and abetting, POCA, criminal attempts and related offences.
Hold a valid UK driving licence (A taxi service is available for a disabled employee)
An understanding of the need for and the aims of a modern Trading Standards Service and the current challenges facing service delivery
Sound ICT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and the ability to use and maintain databases for the accurate recording and retrieval of information. Proficiency in open-source internet investigations, including all forms of social media.
Substantial proven experience of working in an investigatory role and investigating a range of complex criminal offences. Proven ability to investigate offences, prepare concise accurate information reports and give evidence in court proceedings.
Proven ability to handle, manage and record intelligence. Proven ability to interpret and apply complex legislation and similar documents.
Proven ability to advise businesses on complex legal requirements.
Proven ability to ensure that confidentiality is always maintained.
Experience of effective partnership working and proven ability to lead successful projects.
Proven ability to work as a member of a team and without supervision when required.
Proven flexible approach to work tasks and willingness to work outside normal weekday office hours if necessary. To be mobile enough to enter premises and vehicles not belonging to the County Council and able to carry the equipment necessary for the role.
