An opportunity is available for an Engineering Policy Team Manager accountable to the Head of Engineering Policy. The post holder will lead a team of highly specialised policy Engineers to ensure technical specifications, policies and procedures within NGED are fit for purpose.

The base location for this position will be agreed with the successful applicant, but there will be a requirement to work throughout the whole NGED company area. 

Leading the team, the team manager is expected to contribute to and ensure:


The development, maintenance and review of Company policy.
Liaison with group procurement on technical aspects of contracts
The development, maintenance and review of a suite of materials that can be used to disseminate policy changes and updates.
Provision of technical consultancy within the company.
Maintaining up to date knowledge on NGED policy.
Translate asset risk into policy requirements
Representation of NGED at the industry level including panels, forums and innovation events


As part of our hybrid working approach this role offers a mix of office and home working. Hybrid working can only be considered once your initial training is complete and subject to business need.

Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.

If you are offered a position, you will be required to successfully complete a basic DBS check that shows any unspent convictions or conditional cautions.

Main Responsibilities
Ensure shared ownership for the team’s goals, objectives, and delivery in accordance with expectations. Recognise excellent performance and celebrate success.
Continuously reflect on work undertaken and performance of team to identify and implement improvements.
Set clear direction and expectations. Ensure team members clearly understand what needs to be done, why, when and by whom. Review progress against expectation and take appropriate action to ensure delivery of results.
Ensuring compliance with License Obligations, ESQCR and HaSaWA within area of responsibility.
Reviewing and recommending for approval Standard Techniques, Engineering Specifications, SOP’s. DIN’s and other safety related matters.
Build a trusting team environment, where all are equally welcomed and valued. Be authentic, support colleagues’ well-being and create excellent lines of communication.
Proactively support colleague’s physical and mental health, through both a reactive response when situations occur, and pro-actively to support a healthy working environment.

The Ideal Candidate
Be an experienced leader with exceptional people management skills and be able to empower and lead through others.
Have a good understanding of how building a positive work culture aligns to the future challenges of the business.
Be able to develop or have a good understanding of the changing electricity distribution operating environment and how that is reflected in your leadership and development of teams and culture.
Appreciate how a diverse workforce contributes to the future success of the business.
Be able to demonstrate how you have delivered results.
Valid driving licence 


You will have hold an Engineering Level 4 qualification or relevant business management qualification and IOSH or equivalent safety qualification.

A degree in a suitable discipline (I.E Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, Business Administration) is desirable.

Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment.
