If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as an Employability Instructor at HMP Addiewell. In this role you will cater for a wide range of educational and vocational needs for the 796 prisoners. The team focus on delivering courses designed to raise prisoners’ self-esteem and employability skills. Reporting to the purposeful activity team leader the role would suit someone with extensive knowledge and experience in delivering various forms of education in a classroom setting. The role is diverse, thought-provoking and challenging/rewarding in equal measure.This is an exciting opportunity to join the Activities Department at HMP Addiewell as an Employability Instructor. You would be teaching adults to learn and improve employability skills in preparation of their release. Additionally, you would be giving employment information, advice and guidance these to prisoners. You will be creative in planning your teaching, using a variety of innovative and captivating resources whilst being able to deliver in an enthusiastic and inspirational manner. The successful candidate should aspire to provide stimulating and challenging experiences that will enable all learners to develop the skills, knowledge, and attitudes and values that will prepare them for life today and in the future. Sodexo’s vision for HMP Addiewell is to develop a safe, stable, and progressive environment with modern facilities dedicated to reducing re-offending and enabling individuals to fulfil their potential. Every aspect of the prison is designed to help prisoners make meaningful progress in their sentence and personal development goals within a surrounding culture of rehabilitation.Please see the attached job description for a more detailed list of the main responsibilities. The Ideal CandidateExpected Skills/Competencies:SCQF Level 7 in a teaching discipline (or equivalent) or achieve this within eighteen months of undertaking the role.Experience of teaching employability skills to adults across a range of abilities, including supporting students from deprived backgrounds.Experience of working with persons with a range of additional support needs across a range of ages and stages. Demonstrable experience of the SQA framework or of an Industry or Educational Standard.Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation.Good general IT knowledge.Excellent interpersonal and management skills.Ability to work well under pressure, while keeping organised and utilising problem-solving skills. Whilst we would expect you to fulfil the above criteria, we would implore applicants with the relevant transferrable skills to apply for this role, as you may still be a great fit! Why Join Us?HMP Addiewell opened in 2008 and has become an integral part of the Scottish Prison Service estate earning much praise from (amongst others) HMCIP, for its innovation, use of technology, strong partnership working as well as its “can do” culture.Sodexo’s vision for HMP Addiewell is to develop a safe, stable, and progressive environment with modern facilities dedicated to reducing re-offending and enabling individuals to fulfil their potential.
