What is the job role? Are you passionate about working with people with Dementia? This could be the role for you!

We are currently looking for warm, enthusiastic, and dedicated young onset Dementia support workers to be part of an exciting new project which will see the current Dementia Day care provision develop into a single Dementia Hub for Coventry. The ethos of the service is to enable people to live well with Dementia.

As part of the Hub’s offer, we have a post working 18 hours a week on a Fixed-term contract up to March 2024 within the service specifically for young onset dementia. This is an exciting opportunity to offer a bespoke programme to people with young onset dementia which will enable them to develop coping strategies to live as independently as they can, with support to optimise their daily functions and cognitive skills. This could be a 6- or 12-week programme with individuals in their own homes and the community.

As a key worker, you will work with individuals to establish what areas of their daily living they are struggling with and develop coping techniques to manage this. This might be calendar reminders, signs, use of assistive technology or relearning how to do a task such as shopping.

On occasions, there may be some small group work where appropriate.

You will promote independence and apply a person-centred approach in a safe, respectful, and dignified manner; giving people choice and control over the services they are using and ensuring the best possible outcomes for individuals within their own home.

This post is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?A confident and passionate worker who understands how to respond according to the needs of the person and contribute to how the hub might develop in response to the changing demands. A worker who embraces the ethos that people with dementia can live well with dementia.

An opportunity to develop your skills and gain more experience working in and beyond the service linking in with Dementia services

In further detail, your key duties and responsibilities will be to:

Ensure the rights of people who access our services are always promoted, ensuring that the principles of choice, control, dignity, respect, involvement, and empowerment are maintained.
Ensure that the emotional well-being of the people we support is respected in all aspects of service delivery, wherever possible enabling them to assert responsibility for their own lives and obtain and act by the consent of the person regarding their care and support.
Help in creating opportunities and choices, so that everyone can achieve their desired outcomes and has appropriate control over the decision-making process about the service they may receive.
Promote the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual wellbeing of the people we support including supporting people to access local facilities and opportunities.
