We are recruiting for a Business Manager to join the Tarmac Joint Venture Surfacing Framework contract. You will work on this large infrastructure project to optimise the performance of ensuring this project comes in on time and within budget. This role is hybrid working and you will work within the Cambridgeshire / Bedfordshire region.  Whether you live in Hemel Hempstead, Watford, Welwyn Garden City, Uxbridge, Ealing, Stanmore, Rickmansworth, Waltham Cross, Edmonton, Walthamstow, Harlow, Hatfield, Potters Bar, Stevenage or the surrounding areas we would like to hear from you.

Main ResponsibilitiesThe Business Manager will work with the team to deliver the highly strategic project that is fundamental for operational production and business growth.  As the Business Manager you will ensure the project surfacing operations run safely, delivers first class customer service to our clients, drives efficiency improvements throughout the scheme and looks to maximise financial returns for Tarmac. You will plan, create, manage and be instrumental in all activities, you will have the ability to problem solve, innovate, and drive performance to the highest levels.

As the Business Manager must be well-versed in all construction methodologies and procedures and be able to coordinate a team of professionals of different disciplines to achieve the best results. The ideal candidate will have an analytical mind and great organisational skills.

Your responsibilities will include (not exhaustive):


Be responsible for the development of the local commercial strategy that supports the effective delivery of the Commercial elements of the business' national contracting strategy, business plans and objectives
Identify and secure key strategic commercial opportunities to deliver budgeted volumes, margin expectations and growth
Provide leadership, guidance & direction to the business unit commercial team to ensure that objectives and targets are achieved leading to the overall delivery of the commercial strategy
Lead and develop the business unit commercial team to ensure robust profitable and competitive tenders are submitted, taking into account business capability, capacity and financial, technical & contractual risk
Contribute to the development and the effective delivery of the business unit commercial strategy
Take a lead role in identifying and securing a pipeline of commercial opportunities to secure a long term work bank
Ensure that quality, competitive tenders are submitted and key targeted contracts are won, taking into account business capacity, margins, financial and contractual risks
Undertake pre-contract commercial reviews with the operations and QS teams to identify opportunities and risk within proposed future contracts
Manage the production and submission of all tender information relating to commercial functions, including external commercial consultancy resources
Identify potential risks and opportunities within the contract and strategies to manage them Communication is key with colleagues, managers and contractors across the whole project to ensure all tasks are performed promptly, you must have the tact and diplomacy when dealing with tense situations that can arise at any moment during the project's life cycle


Key Stakeholders: Tarmac Management Team - Area Operations Managers - Finance – Contractors – Site Management - Supply Chain – Engineers – Technical – Operations – Human Resources – Project Team - Contractors

You will hold a FULL UK manual car driving license with no more than 6 penalty points
The Ideal CandidateThe successful applicant in the role will be instrumental in the future development and support of our culture. You will have experience within a Construction, Highways or Surfacing industry, this experience will be an essential requirement for this role; road or highways surfacing knowledge would be extremely beneficial.

Qualifications/Requirements/Capabilities:


Desirable - HNC/HND, or a Degree in a role related discipline as this would prove highly beneficial in your success in the role
Desirable - Management experience on multi-million-pound operational, construction or heavy engineering project/s
Challenge people, hold them accountable for job completion and quality of completion
Computer literate - familiarity with computer software - word, excel, etc
Good communication skills, with a positive, proactive can - do attitude to both colleagues and external agencies / contractors
