Coventry City Council’s Migration Team is dedicated to meeting the needs of newly arriving communities and facilitating a successful integration journey into the city. As leaders in the field of refugee resettlement, we provide support to vulnerable individuals through various initiatives, including employment, education, language acquisition and training enabling them to contribute to the economic, civic and social fabric of our vibrant city. With collaborative partnerships and exciting projects, like "My Coventry", ‘’Mi-Friendly Cities’’ and "Step Forward," we celebrate diversity while ensuring everyone's rights and opportunities are valued.

What is the job role?We are looking for a passionate and flexible person with extensive experience of working and supporting refugees and newly arrived communities into work. The successful person will be able to demonstrate how they have enabled individuals from this cohort to successfully access employment opportunities.   

You will have experience of working with local employers to assist them to recruit locally focusing on the migrant and refugee community.    

You will have excellent communication skills and be able to develop a professional, long lasting and mutually beneficial relationships with local employers and Migration Team partners to ensure maximum promotion of opportunities to refugees and migrants.  

You will need to be a self-starter with the ability to engage and motivate people; have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all levels and strong negotiating skills and account management experience. The successful candidate will be able to multi-task, work calmly under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Who are we looking for?This is a fixed term contract of one year.  

The right candidate will possess the following:   



Knowledge of the local, regional, and national labour market and the issues presented to customers needing to secure sustainable jobs  


In-depth knowledge and understanding of employment market and barriers to employment faced by refugees and newly arrived communities  


Knowledge of anti-discriminative practice and equality, diversity, and inclusion issues  


Knowledge of environmental sustainability issues.  


Understanding of challenges and barriers that people with a range of difficulties encounter in relation to employment and training  


Knowledge of intervention programmes that work with customers needing to find a job  


Knowledge of Migration related programmes   


Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills. i.e., listening, face-to-face, using the telephone, writing reports, and keeping records  


Able to carry out a range of assessments  


Able to carry out programme assessments with customers  


Able to operate self sufficiently  


Able to take case load responsibility - with supervision  


Able to act as key worker and co-ordinate and review job search support packages as part of job search plans  


Able to develop and maintain professional relationships with customers and significant others  


Able to engage with individuals who find it hard to access services and set achievable targets for change  


Able to work in joint partnerships to support customer needs   


Able to represent the service in other settings if required  


Experience of working with asylum seekers, refugees and newly arrived communities  


Experience of providing employment support to refugees and newly arrived communities  


Experience of supporting externally funded employment related projects for refugees and newly arrived communities
