We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our fast-paced manufacturing team as a Trainee Sewing Machinist at DFS. This is a fantastic opportunity to kick-start your career in the upholstery industry and develop your skills within a supportive environment. As a Trainee Sewing Machinist, you will be working closely with experienced machinists to learn the techniques and skills required to create high-quality upholstery for our furniture range.

You will receive on-the-job training to operate industrial sewing machines, and you’ll be responsible for stitching and assembling various fabric components to help create beautiful, durable furniture pieces. You will play an important role in ensuring that every product meets DFS’s high standards for quality and craftsmanship.

This role requires a keen eye for detail, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work efficiently in a high-volume production environment. As you progress in the role, you will gain the skills and experience needed to take on more responsibility and develop into a fully qualified sewing machinist.

Location: Northern Upholstery, Bentley Moor Ln, Adwick le Street, Doncaster DN6 7BD

Hours: Full Time. 40 hours per week.

Shifts: Monday to Thursday - 2pm till 12:20 midnight Monday to Wednesday. Thursday is 2pm till 12:05 midnight

Salary: You will be paid an initial training rate until you are up to speed, you will then be paid piecework (so you will be rewarded for the more you machine.) Starting salary £12.50 per hour, rising to on target earnings of £16.50ph+, after training.

What you'll be doing
Learn to operate industrial sewing machines to stitch fabrics, leather, and other materials for upholstery production.
Assist experienced machinists with the preparation and stitching of fabric and components for furniture items.
Follow detailed instructions and patterns to create consistent, high-quality seams and finishes.
Inspect your work to ensure it meets quality standards, ensuring that each product is free from defects.
Cut, trim, and prepare fabrics to specifications under the guidance of senior team members.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to health and safety protocols.
Work as part of a team to ensure production targets are met while maintaining high levels of quality.
Participate in ongoing training and development to enhance your sewing and upholstery skills.
Support the team in meeting deadlines and production schedules, contributing to the timely delivery of furniture.
