Mains Layer
The Role:
Mains Layer is required to cover works within the Southern region.
Key Responsibilities with Understanding and Knowledge of the following:
Water companies permit to work (PTW) System
Water main design drawings service drawings and job packs
PE pipes with their properties and characteristics
Measuring and calibrating water mains
Able to distinguish between existing pipe materials and joints
Contingency plans and their requirements
Temporary works design for pressure testing
Thrust block requirements and design
Discharge licenses including flow rates
3-stage DENSO process for buried flanged joints
Correct choice of pipe-cutting equipment
Reinstate of valves, hydrants, and other water network equipment
The Importance of bolt torque and recording documentation
Person Specification:
The successful candidate is likely to meet all the following criteria:
Essential
Previous civil engineering experience working within utilities, ideally working in clean and wastewater
Willing to travel and have a driving licence
Desirable
EUSR joint Material by butt fusion processes (EUSMUNC11)
EUSR joint material by ELECTROFUSION processes (EUSMUN10)
Flanged installation training (Control Point)
Pipeline commissioning (Including pressure testing and Chlorination/De-chlorination)
Training in pipe cutting equipment - Powergrit Saw, Keel Cutter, Cold Cutter, Clam Shell (Spit Cutter)
Abrasive Wheel training
EUSR National Water Hygiene Card (Blue Card)
EUSR Utility SHEA (Water) Network process and sewerage network
Training in use of Prodrill 20 + 26 to drill water mains
Confined spaces (CP1)
Asbestos awareness
All qualifications are desirable and training will be provided if any are not obtained at present.
