We’re looking for an experienced OH Nurse Advisor to join our existing team of nurses and Occupational Health Technicians, as well as our recently appointed Wellbeing Lead. Alongside an OHNA and OHT, you will work across our West Midlands depots ensuring our people are safe and well and carry out pre-employment medicals, health surveillance and case management via manager referrals. A willingness and ability to travel is essential.

We’re looking for someone who has previous experience of working in a safety critical industry, who can develop excellent relationships with our leaders and people at all levels and across disciplines/teams e.g. our People team.  Whilst a people focus is essential, we also need our teams to understand and consider the business needs.

Main ResponsibilitiesAccountabilities

General


Case management – assessment, treatment planning and writing clear and concise reports to provide effective support for employees and advice leaders.
Update employee medical records accurately and in a timely way, and in line with GDPR requirements.
Undertake pre-placement medical assessments for newly appointed people to ensure they meet the health and safety requirements of the role.
Communicate with your clients in a professional, inquisitive (to ensure you get all required information to make an assessment), and sensitive manner.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders including your OH colleagues, our leaders, and the People Team.  
Work collaboratively and proactively with colleagues in Health & Safety, the regional People team and the business to ensure our people are safe and well, and to ensure a business as well as people focused outcome.


Health Surveillance


Delivery of health surveillance in line with current health and safety legislation to safety critical staff.
Use professional knowledge and judgement to interpret health surveillance results and relate to occupational exposures and health protection strategies.
Maintain your knowledge of and interpret health and safety legislation relevant to health protection and health surveillance, and use knowledge to raise awareness of health protection and surveillance.
Develop and maintain your understanding of business needs and culture to help you put in place appropriate health protection measures in a people and business focused way.  
Ensure practice incorporates strategies of primary prevention and early intervention of adverse health effects.
Influence behaviour change to improve people and business outcomes.


Attendance Management and Rehabilitation


Collaborate and maintain effective communication with leaders and the regional People team to ensure the timely assessment, appropriate support, and rehabilitation of employees.
Liaise with and maintain links with external agencies (e.g., physiotherapists, occupational therapists, occupational physicians, general practitioners etc.) to support the rehabilitation and early return to work of our people.
Provide data and identify trends in sickness and absence, generate reports and act upon reports provided by others.

The Ideal CandidateRequired knowledge, skills and experience


Previous experience of working in Occupational Health in a safety critical industry.
A high degree of self-motivation, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.
You will have and maintain a comprehensive understanding of health and safety at work legislation and the responsibilities that it places on employers and employees is essential.
The ability to quickly develop your knowledge of NGED systems, policies/procedures, and culture.
To be successful in this role you must be able/willing to travel across your region, and occasionally wider e.g. to attend team events.


Qualifications


Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) register.
 Have a relevant qualification in Occupational Health (OH), e.g., degree or diploma.
Hold or be willing to obtain a Hand-Arm Vibration (HAVS) qualification.


Evidence of your qualification certificates will be required prior to appointment.
