Due to an internal promotion, Saga plc is seeking to appoint a Treasury Accountant to deliver a professional and efficient service across the Saga Finance and Central Professional Services community. Here you will be the main point of contact for all Treasury-related issues and queries. Plus, the key day-to-day point of contact for all Treasury partners such as our banks, auditors and other financial services providers.
At Saga, the Treasury Team’s objective is to look after the financial health of our organisation by mitigating risks, keeping assets safe and returns optimised. The Treasury Accountant’s role is critical to the daily operation and oversight of Treasury and is a central point of contact in a small busy team. You will be exposed to managing the Group’s cash, debt, currency and commodity hedges and investment strategy. You will be working closely with our Operating Board and senior stakeholders as well as our external stakeholders including lenders, lawyers, rating agencies and auditors.
We work in a hybrid way at Saga both at home and in the office. The Investor Relations and Treasury team meet in person once a week in Ashford, Kent. Main ResponsibilitiesWorking as our Treasury Accountant, you’ll report directly to the Director of Investor Relations and Treasury. You will be responsible for the following;
The oversight of Enterprise-wide cash balances each day such that there are no overdrawn balances and that surplus funds are invested in line with policy, ensuring that regulatory capital is ringfenced where required. Additionally, providing regular updates to senior colleagues on the cash position and expected covenant headroom.
Lead the implementation of process improvement and automation of daily processes, particularly cash management, working with the finance transformation team to drive forward change and extracting additional value from existing portals and systems.
Lead change within the broader team, identifying areas for improvement, eliminating complexity, and reducing spreadsheet reliance.
Develop and maintain accurate cash flow forecasts to ensure adequate liquidity, along with forecasting interest income based on current and projected cash balances and market interest rates.
Oversight of foreign exchange settlement on behalf of the Travel businesses in line with Group policy.
Preparation and processing of manual payments, where required, and coordinating improvement of the authorisation process.
Oversight of online banking and portal administration and maintenance of user and contact lists.
Oversight of bank mandates, including the coordination of changes with the Company Secretarial Team and various banks, including maintenance of a master database.
Preparing the agenda for and attending Travel Treasury Committees and supporting the travel business units with identifying requirements and exposures. Deputising for the Director of Investor Relations and Treasury at committee meetings.
Assist with and carry out foreign exchange currency trading, as well as maintaining hedge accounting documentation.
Support with the management of the merchant acquiring relationship, including taking the Treasury lead on project implementation.
Prepare monthly debt drawdowns, compliance certificates and information deliverables to banks, agents, and ratings agencies.
Prepare monthly reporting for the debt facilities and investment portfolio under treasury management, together with month end reconciliations and variance analysis.
Ownership and maintenance of Group Treasury policies.
Support with ad hoc projects as required.
Oversee the management of the Treasury inbox, ensuring appropriate responses in a timely manner.
Serve as a key contact for our banks and other stakeholders, including KYC and audit requests.
Coaching and mentoring of the Treasury Analyst.

The Ideal CandidateYou will have already worked in a Treasury department and be able to demonstrate high levels of accuracy and accountability to perform in this dependable role. You will also demonstrate the following skills and experience;
Strong communication skills are essential, being one of the primary points of contact within a small team and communicating directly with internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to build financial models in a clear, concise, presentable and easily understandable manner.
Accuracy and the ability to self-review is critical.
Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
Previous successful working history in a Treasury-based role.
Excellent knowledge of banking regulations and payment mechanisms.
Desirable;
Full or Part qualified accountant.
Hold the ACT qualification.
