We are currently looking for a Planning & Capacity Manager at our offices in Wolverhampton, working in our Blocks division. The site is easily accessible from Cannock, Rugeley, Stafford, Leek, Ashbourne, Derby, Burton Upon Trent, Lichfield, Cannock, Stourbridge, Kidderminster, Worcester, Kidderminster, Bridgnorth, Much Wenlock, Telford, Shifnal, Dudley, Halesowen, West Bromwich, Walsall and the surrounding areas.

Main ResponsibilitiesAs the successful Planning & Capacity Manager, you will report to the Senior Logistics Manager and will be responsible for the provision and management of sufficient haulage capacity to meet the needs of the Blocks business, overseeing the end to end logistics solution from factory to the customer, ensuring the safest and most efficient operations whilst delivering a high level of customer service.

Managing all third-party logistics relationships and haulage contracts, you will ensure appropriate levels of haulage capacity is available, alongside sourcing and investigating potential new haulage capacity options. Reviewing supplier ability, you will ensure delivery and quality requirements are consistently met whilst working with suppliers, freight forwarders and vendors to determine terms of contracts and negotiate prices.

On a day to day basis, duties and responsibilities of the Planning & Capacity Manager will include (not exhaustive):


Delivering against agreed KPI’s, driving team performance
Ensuring customer deliveries are scheduled with accuracy and within service level agreements
Addressing scheduling problems with the customer service team and provide solutions
Meeting financial targets relating to all transport related activity
Analysing network performance, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement with a focus on maximising revenue or reducing cost
Maintaining a core fleet of Contract Hauliers
Holding regular performance updates with key service providers
Assisting the Sales & Planning teams in scheduling advance deliveries, identifying issues and providing solutions as they arise
Developing challenging improvement plans and ensuring that the logistics and planning function is appropriately resourced and competent to achieve its targets 
Role model Tarmac values and behaviours, ensuring they are communicated and embedded within the business
Ensuring adherence to Transport legislation and safety protocols, including group standards for safety, environment, and quality of the daily operations
Engaging with the driver community to ensure buy-in to Zero Incidents culture, including quarterly driver meetings and ‘ride-alongs’, ensuring all unsafe acts are reported
Engaging with and working alongside factory/plant managers
Implementing new policies, or modifying existing procedures, to minimize costs, increase accuracy, improve customer service and safety and meet product distribution needs

The Ideal CandidateThe ideal Planning & Capacity Manager will strive to deliver business goals,  approaching challenges with energy and enthusiasm, overcoming obstacles whilst encouraging and advising others to improve performance, effectively communicating with various stakeholders.

Furthermore, you will plan, prioritise, delegate and work to deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail, reacting to changing priorities whilst reflecting on situations and learning from experiences. This role entails frequent travel throughout the UK with overnight stays required, anticipated travel will be 1 to 2 days per week.

Suitable candidates for the Planning & Capacity Manager role will also have experience in;


Transport management, safety & planning including knowledge of the working time regulations and driving hours
Contract procurement and management, including transport tender design, management and selection through negotiation, due diligence and implementation
End to end Contract Haulier terms and process, from recruitment and vetting, finance and equipment acquisition, earnings and financial position to renewals
Microsoft Office and Transport Management Systems and Route Optimisation packages
National CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)
Experience of working with a variety of vehicle types would be desirable (E.g. MOL, Curtainsiders, Flatbeds, Artics, Rigids)
