Other locations may become available in the future, so flexibility is key!Roles and Responsibilities:Hospital Porters assist in the smooth operation of the hospital by transporting patients, equipment, and supplies. Your responsibilities will include:Assisting with patient transfersPreparing rooms for proceduresSupporting various hospital departments with logistical tasksThe ability to remain composed and show resilience, show empathy, and give respect in the face of challenging events. As at times, you may be called upon to carry out duties of a sensitive and sometimes challenging nature, including morgue transfers and the transfer of patients who have severe and life changing injuries. This extends not just to the patient but also to all members of their party, who may be upset, worried, and/or grieving a recent loss.Handling waste removal of all types of clinical and nonclinical waste, which may also include waste of a sensitive and challenging nature.Transferring laboratory samples of a sensitive nature from wards to the Biomedical Sciences laboratories.After time and training you could be working with pressurized gases.Being polite, prompt, and friendly to all colleagues, patients, and guests.Communicating with patients, guests, and colleagues to ensure smooth delivery.Ability to remain calm during periods of high volume or unusual events, whilst remaining driven to complete your tasks.Manual handling of equipment – training available where requiredMaintaining a clean and tidy workspaceEnsuring all cleaning and disposable products are stored correctly and used in accordance with training given.Assist with new team members by giving respectful and encouraging coaching as needed.Exceptional standards of hygiene and cleanliness in line with NHS Staff Guidelines.Operating machinery as shown and trained in accordance with company policy.Comply with all company and unit policies with regards to Health & Safety, Hygiene, Manual Handling and COSHH.Follow responsible alcohol service policies.Wears personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.Attributes Engaging, flexible and friendly in manner.Able to communicate effectively with all our patients, family members, and colleagues. Listen and respond appropriately.Confidence when meeting and interacting with people.Excellent teamwork skills and a proactive, can-do attitude.Self-assured when working alone.Ability to work in a high pressure, busy, fast paced environment.Comfortable to walk & stand during majority of shift as well as frequent manual handling tasks. Please be aware that for some roles this does include a 12-hour shift.Venue Specific’s Over 18’s onlyWe are looking for people who can commit to a week’s rota, due to this only those who can commit to flexible hours over all 7 days should apply.We do not guarantee hours every week, however you will have the opportunity to pick up additional work over the 119 different venues across the capital.This role is not suitable for individuals who are restricted to working a maximum of 20 hours per week under a student visa. While we understand that additional hours may be available during breaks between terms, this opportunity requires consistent availability throughout the year.
