Astute’s Nuclear team is partnering with a joint venture working on the Hinkley Point C project in Bristol to recruit a Piping Calculations Engineer for its Bristol office.

The Piping Calculations Engineer is business critical and will play a pivotal role in contributing to the completion of the HPC design phase role comes with a salary ranging from �40,000 up to �55,000 dependant on experience.

Responsibilities and duties

Reporting to the you will:

* Conduct detailed piping flexibility and support calculations using industry-standard tools and methodologies.
* Perform mechanical analysis of piping networks to verify compliance with applicable design codes and standards.
* Identify and propose technical solutions when sizing or flexibility criteria are not satisfied.
* Develop and produce comprehensive technical assessment and calculation notes.
* Prepare loading description reports in coordination with system engineering activities.
* Validate civil work interfaces, equipment nozzle loads, and layout modifications, ensuring seamless integration with structural and mechanical systems.
* Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of calculation tools, procedures, and methodologies.
* Provide technical support and expertise to other engineers within the team and across international interfaces.
* Ensure all deliverables meet quality, safety, and project schedule requirements.



Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

* PhD or Degree in Mechanics or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
* Strong expertise in mechanical simulation, particularly finite element analysis (FEA).
* Strong understanding of piping stress analysis, materials, and structural mechanics.
* Hands-on experience with finite element tools.
* Familiarity with UK design standards and regulatory processes.
* Proficiency in ANSYS and special piping component calculations (fixed points, endplates).
* Experience with RSTAB, BEAM STRESS, and support calculations and CALTUY/Pipestress software.
* Knowledge of RCC-M code (section C3650) and damage modes.
* Minimum of 5 years' experience in piping calculation.

* Basic salary �45,000 - �55,000 DOE
* 25 days annual leave per year raising to 28 (x1 day for 2 years service)
