We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Horticulture Instructor to support autistic adults in a unique and fulfilling role. The successful candidate will work primarily at an offsite allotment, providing horticultural training and support. They will also take the lead in maintaining the grounds around the Jigsaw centre.This role involves lone working, often offsite, and requires someone who is experienced in handling possible physically and emotionally challenging behaviours.A valid driving licence is essential, as is a willingness to work in all weather conditions. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of growing fruit and vegetables and have a deep understanding of autism and experience mentoring/training/teaching autistic adults.Autism Anglia is dedicated to providing ongoing training and supervision, continuing professional development and support as well as an extensive induction on commencement of employment.Location: Jigsaw Opportunity Centre, CO2 9JTSalary:£11.68 per hourHours:28 hours per weekThe role:Provide hands-on training in horticulture, focusing on the cultivation of fruits and vegetables.Accessing garden centres and nurseries to purchase any resources needed.Develop and deliver tailored horticulture programs that meet the needs and abilities of autistic adults.Ensure that participants understand and follow health and safety protocols in the allotment.Forming and maintaining positive relationships with other allotment plot holders.Support the participants to take pride in the grounds of the centre and support with the Maintenance of the garden spaceAddress and manage physically and emotionally challenging behaviours with patience and professionalism.Implement individualised goal plans for participants.Creating a structured session to help the participants feel happy and secure.Adapting communication style and using visuals to suit the needs of the individual.Use positive reinforcement and other strategies to encourage desired behaviours.Applications are welcome from applicants who:Knowledge of autism and experience working with autistic individuals.Training in autism-specific strategies and interventions is preferred.Proven experience in growing fruit and vegetables.Familiarity with sustainable and organic gardening practices.Valid clean driving licence – To drive the company vehicle you must be over 21 years old and have held your licence for 2 years.Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.Physical fitness to perform manual gardening tasks and handle physical demands of the role.To apply:If you have a genuine passion for supporting and uplifting others, your outstanding future at Autism Anglia could be moments away.
