About the roleOur maintenance officers play a vital role within the running of the hospices and take pride within the environment in which they operate. It is the Maintenance Officers responsibility to ensure that all equipment and facilities are fully functioning, keeping the safety of employees and customers at the forefront of everything we do.A key aspect of the role is to identify hazards, investigate accidents and educate employees about risks.As you will be required to work across all 3 hospices and carry out various reactive and planned maintenance tasks a valid UK driving licence is an essential requirement as frequent travel may be required throughout the working day.Essential criteriaQualifications within a trade relevant to facility managementSignificant and recent experience in a similar roleExperience of working in a high-pressure environment with multiple demands on your timeKnowledge of reactive maintenance and minor building worksKnowledge of Health and Safety at work, manual handlingAbility to prioritise tasks and meet required deadlinesAble to work on own initiative and have strong communication skillsAbility to provide clear verbal and written instructions to ensure repairs are completed quickly and accuratelyFlexible and adaptable approach to all situations to meet the requirements of a continually changing and developing businessEnsuring safe systems of work are always adhered toProblem-solving skills: Strong ability to analyse problems quickly, considering potential solutions, and determining best option to pursueExcellent attention to detail, finishing all tasks to a high levelHave good level of health to meet the activities and physical demands required for the roleA valid UK driving licence and the ability to travel frequently throughout the working day across the catchment area for the hospiceAbout usSouthern Hospice Group is the largest group of hospices in Sussex and one of the largest in the UK. We are committed to providing exceptional and compassionate care to adults, children and their families across Sussex.
