Astute's Power Team are exclusively working with the SAICA Group to support the recruitment for a Mechanical Engineering Team Leader for their Combined Heat & Power Plant located at their Papermill Facility in Manchester.
As the Mechanical Area (Power Plant) Team Leader you will be responsible for the strategic planning, coordination and leadership of mechanical maintenance activities across the “Balance of Plant” on the Power Plant. This includes the material handling equipment, boiler & heat recovery generators, water treatment plant and ancillary equipment.
Ideally be qualified with a HNC / HND in Mechanical Engineering, have several years’ experience supervisory experience combined with experience in the aforementioned plant & equipment and able to lead & deliver a mechanical maintenance strategy focused on improvement plant reliability, availability and efficiency.

Responsibilities and duties of the Mechanical Area Team Leader role Reporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for:
* Apply effective leadership tools and best practices in the execution of daily maintenance operations.
* Plan and coordinate long-term, short-term, and daily maintenance activities in collaboration with the maintenance scheduler.
* Drive the implementation of maintenance improvement initiatives and outcomes from Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations.
* Develop and enhance preventative and corrective maintenance processes within your area of responsibility.
* Collaborate with Area Engineers and the development team to improve equipment reliability.
* Lead and manage a team, overseeing performance, compensation, attendance, and disciplinary matters.
* Manage daily and shutdown maintenance tasks, ensuring timely and effective execution.
* Take ownership of corrective and preventative maintenance work orders within your designated area.Lead response efforts for breakdowns and coordinate unplanned shutdown activities.
* Make informed decisions regarding changes to daily maintenance schedules based on operational needs.
* Review and assign work orders within your area, ensuring alignment with team capabilities and priorities.
* Supervise shutdown activities and assess schedules, delays, and necessary adjustments to ensure optimal execution.
Professional qualifications We are looking for someone with the following:
* Ideally qualified with a minimum HNC / HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
* IOSH or NEBOSH would be advantageous
* Time served Apprentice in Mechanical Engineering
Personal skills The Mechanical Area Team Leader role would suit someone who has:
* At least five years’ experience working in an Engineering capacity on a similar heavy industry plant – ideally utilising high pressure steam systems such as Power Plants, Refineries, COMAH sites etc.
* Minimum three years’ experience as a Team Leader or in a supervisory position.
* Extensive experience utilising maintenance methodologies such as Root Cause Analysis to maximise asset availability.
* Experience with management of sub-contractors.
* Working knowledge of PSSR, LOLER, PUWER regulations
