Technical Assistant - Godmanchester

Salary - £20k - £24k plus 20% Shift Allowance

Contract - 2 year fixed term contract

The company are a leading firm who provides complementary expertise and knowledge to accelerate the translation of research into products. Our client has an interest in a huge range of novel technologies and actively works with partners to develop the potential for these technologies into marketable solutions.

The Role

You will be required to provide skilled support to Technology Development projects by fabricating and testing a range of printed electronics devices using industrial printers in a cleanroom environment. In addition, to develop new processes and capabilities under engineering supervision, including documenting and reporting of results.

Main Activities

Prepare solutions for printed electronics material for device fabrication.
Preparation of glass substrates.
Coating of polymer solutions on substrates using thin film deposition techniques such as inkjet printing, slot die coating and screen printing.
Cathode deposition and encapsulation.
Singulation and evaluation of devices.
Working with Engineers on the introduction of new methods to improve device fabrication processes and failure analysis.
Routine testing of printed electronics devices, supporting development of specialist testing of devices including Charged Couple Device (CCD) photometry.
Maintenance of consumables stock levels required for fabrication of required devices.
Consistent and accurate data collection and entry into database during device fabrication.
Present data and key findings back to the group in the weekly technical meeting.
Observe all Health and Safety policies and regulations
Maintain and update as necessary the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Risk Assessments (RAs) for some fabrication and analysis processes.

Skills and Experience

Educated to HNC/HND/Degree level in Engineering or a Science based discipline.
Experience in a laboratory/clean room environment will be a significant asset. Note that the successful candidate will be spending a large proportion of their working day in a cleanroom environment. This requires the position holder to wear a cleanroom suit for a proportion of the day.
This role requires the position holder to work in a darkroom for some of the working day.
Experience of glove box handling would be advantageous and strong fine motor skills and dexterity are a requirement of the role.
Experience of Windows OS and Microsoft Office products is highly desirable as these will be used on a daily basis.
Experience working according to Clean Room standards would be preferable.
Strong attention to detail is essential.
This role requires working a rotating shift pattern 6.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. and 12.30 to 8.30 p.m. with a half an hour for lunch, Monday to Friday.
A calm and methodical approach to work.
An ability to solve technical problems under one`s own initiative, with a willingness to seek expert assistance when required.
Excellent communication skills and strong team working skills.
Strong practical nature.
