We are currently recruiting for an Accounts Assistant for a 9 - 12 month contract with a great Law firm based in central Reading. The office is within walking distance of the train station and is very easily accessible by public transport. The role is due to start at the end of June and you will be joining a close knit team that is supportive and fun! This is a full-time role but does offer some flexibility on hours if needed as long as five days a week are worked. The role involves the following: * To assist in the provision of an efficient and effective accounting service to the firm as a whole. * To post accounting transactions to the firms Client and Office ledgers in a prompt and accurate manner * To assist in the firm’s cashier function and with the overall work of the Accounts department, including controlling cash, making/ receiving payment transactions, and undertaking other transactions as required. * Contribute to the successful operation of the Accounts department. Main duties and responsibilities: 1. Posting of accounting transactions to the firm’s Client account and Office account ledgers. 2. Daily bank statement reconciliations; some billing and productions of cheques 3. Purchase Ledger - inputting and payment of all supplier invoices once relevant approval has been administered 4. Ensuring that these transactions are promptly and accurately posted, and that the firm’s accounting records are kept up to date in accordance with the Solicitor’s Accounts Rules and requirements of the Law Society, the firm’s auditors, and best practice. 5. Regularly completing, or managing the completion of, all necessary reconciliations, including reconciliations of both Client account and Office account. 6. Performing the role of Assistant Cashier providing a normal cashier function, control of cash, making and receiving of Chaps payments, and other relevant transactions, as required and properly instructed from time to time. 7. Assisting where necessary in the day to day system management of the firm’s accounts related computer systems, helping to ensure smooth operation, maximum availability to users, and the prompt dealing with problems. 8. Performing any other duties of as may be required within the Accounts Department from time to time. 9. Liaison with the Accounts Manager in the first instance concerning any problems relating to the above activities.
