We are ideally looking for candidates with proven expertise in Fashion and Textiles to be responsible for delivering practical, theoretical and contextual teaching in Fashion practice and theory across a range of levels.

Art and Design Department

The area provides wide-ranging vocational and academic programmes in Design and Creative Arts from L1-5 for approximately 230 full time students.  Students are able to study a wide range of artistic media including visual art, graphics, photography and textiles through the input of expert practitioners and teachers.

The area aims to be a centre of artistic excellence within the wider community and to positively impact the academic, vocational and artistic development of students of all ages.  The bespoke facilities in the Northlight Centre are sector-leading, supporting specialisms in photography, textiles, fashion, graphics and fine art.


The Role

Bournemouth & Poole College are looking to recruit a Lecturer in Fashion and Textiles to be responsible for delivering practical, theoretical and contextual teaching in Fashion practice and theory across a range of levels. You will have proven expertise in Fashion and Textiles and ideally will hold a relevant degree or MA that supports this, as well as extensive experience as a practitioner with a portfolio that supports this too.


You will drive forward course curriculum and content and continue to develop links with industry for experiential learning.


You will also understand the achievement culture within modern colleges.


A good team worker, you will be flexible in your approach to departmental duties and will also be able to plan and deliver teaching sessions with independence. The post holder will be conversant with the paperwork and record keeping associated with post 16 learning environments.


Preferably you will also have experience of a pastoral tutor role and have the skills to support and track a wide range of learners with differentiated needs whilst also leading them to academic success through robust target setting.


Key responsibilities, skills and attitudes

Contribute to the development and delivery of a range of Study Programmes including identifying learning objectives; determining, designing and producing study material; planning course/study programme delivery.
Contribute to high quality learning experiences using a variety of teaching and learning methods.
Ensure that teaching is based on current best available practice and is consistent with a high standard of practice.
Provide academic and pastoral support to students in accordance with agreed procedures.
Create an outstanding student experience which leads to progression or employment.
Manage student issues within agreed protocols.
Undertake such other reasonable duties as the line manager may require from time to time and review this Job Description annually with the line manager.
Participate in the College’s appraisal process and to undertake any training that may be appropriate
Take appropriate responsibility to ensure the health and safety of self and others
